Nevins Memorial Library, a widow's memorial to a mill owner
1883
305 Broadway, Methuen, Massachusetts
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Eliza Nevins and her two sons built this library in 1883 in memory of David Nevins Sr, whose money came out of the Methuen and Lawrence textile mills. It has been the town's public library ever since and went on the National Register in 1984. The Nevins were one of three Gilded Age families whose fortunes account for most of what is monumental in Methuen.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
