Air Force Plant 4, the mile-long bomber plant with no windows
1942
West Fort Worth, Texas
Consolidated Aircraft started building B-24 Liberators here in February 1942 while parts of the factory were still going up. The assembly hall ran about a mile end to end and had no windows at all, because wartime blackout rules did not allow any. More than 3,000 Liberators left it in the first two years and around 38,000 people worked there at the 1944 peak. Lockheed Martin builds F-35s in the same building now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
