The Bell Bomber plant builds 668 B-29s in Marietta
1943
Marietta, Georgia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Bell Aircraft opened this government-owned plant in April 1943 to build B-29 Superfortresses under licence from Boeing, and at peak it employed about 28,000 people in a county that had been farmland. It turned out 668 bombers before the war ended and was then mothballed. Lockheed reopened it for the Korean War and has run it ever since, which is why Cobb County's largest employer is an aircraft factory.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
