The Great Fire of 1901
May 3, 1901

Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A spark from a chimney reached a fibre factory drying moss for mattresses, and eight hours later 146 city blocks and 2,368 buildings were gone. The glow was visible in Savannah. It is still the largest urban fire in the American South, and the city rebuilt in brick to a plan by Henry Klutho.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
