A Paterson chain store with 132 branches goes under in a month
1932
226 Main Street, Paterson, New Jersey
The Legnam Corporation, run out of offices on Main Street and Broadway in Paterson, sold women's clothing through 132 stores in thirty eight states. It had been trading as Mangel's, and it was still expanding when the Depression caught it. Deflation and the collapse in spending left it unable to pay its debts and it went insolvent in June 1932. A national retail chain headquartered in Paterson is a reminder of what the city was before the mills went.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
