Isadore M. Lewis, an architect who worked mostly for Detroit's Jewish clients, designed this East Kirby building in 1922 as the Tushiyah United Hebrew School and headquarters of the United Hebrew Schools of Detroit. The school closed in 1929 and the building was sold that same year to Scott Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, the first mainline African American Methodist Episcopal congregation in the city. It reached the National Register in 2011 and now holds the Kirby Center Lofts.
