City Methodist Church, the roofless cathedral of the Rust Belt
1926
Gary, Indiana
Paul Sableman from St. Louis, MO · CC BY 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
When it opened in 1926 it was the largest Methodist church in the Midwest, built in Gothic Revival stone at the height of Gary's boom. The congregation shrank with the city and the last service was held in 1975. The roof has since fallen in and trees grow inside the sanctuary, and the shell now stands as a stabilised public ruin rather than a demolition site.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
