Where Long Island trains stopped and the ferry began

Before the East River tunnels, every Long Island Rail Road passenger bound for Manhattan got off at Hunters Point and finished the journey by boat, to the ferry landing at East 34th Street or to James Slip downtown. The station first opened in 1854, was rebuilt seven times in the 19th century and burned down in 1902. Passenger ferry service lasted until 1925. Freight kept crossing on car floats from the transfer bridges beside it, on the ground that is now Gantry Plaza State Park.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
