Mesa Public Schools opened Westwood in 1962 under founding principal Elias Brimhall. It is the zoned public high school for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, so teenagers from the reservation north of the Salt River go to a city school in west Mesa rather than one run by the tribe or the federal government. It was named a Blue Ribbon school in the 1983 to 1984 year.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
