The county junior college board created Glendale Community College on 12 April 1965, raising it from a branch of Phoenix College into the first college serving the West Valley in its own right. Its first 1,974 students took liberal arts classes in temporary quarters before the college moved in 1966 to a 147 acre campus at 59th and Olive avenues. It is part of the Maricopa County Community College District.
