Walt Whitman's tomb at Harleigh Cemetery
1885
Camden, New Jersey
Harleigh opened in 1885 as a rural cemetery on 130 acres beside the Cooper River, and gave Whitman a hillside plot for free. He spent more on the granite vault he designed for it than he had paid for his house. He is buried there with his parents and several siblings, whose remains he had moved to join him.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
