Van Houten's Landing, the old core of Upper Nyack

Fifty buildings around a Hudson landing that grew into the whole of Upper Nyack after 1798, before the river towns filled in behind them. Greek Revival and Italianate houses stand alongside the Voorhis store of about 1884, a village hall from around 1870, and the Empire Hook and Ladder firehouse of 1887, a Queen Anne brick engine house with a corner bell tower that carries its own National Register listing inside the district. It is one of the few intact village cores left on the Rockland side of the Tappan Zee.
