Vailsburg votes itself into Newark

Vailsburg incorporated as its own borough on the western edge of Newark in March 1894. Ten years later its voters chose annexation in a special election held in April 1904, and on the first day of 1905 the borough became part of the city. It was the last independent town Newark took in, which is why the city line stops where it does.
