The White Rock Lake bath house was one of the first art deco buildings in Texas

Dallas built this in 1930 so that swimmers had somewhere to change before going into White Rock Lake, with lockers on the ground floor, concessions in the basement and a sand beach running out into the water. The architect was Jon Carsey, working in a style he had picked up from the 1925 Paris exposition, which makes it one of the earliest art deco buildings in the state. Swimming in the lake was stopped in 1953 and the building sat idle. It reopened in 1981 as the city's first neighbourhood cultural centre, with a black box theatre and two galleries.
