A 500 seat theatre opened on Krome Avenue in November 1921 and burned to the ground in March 1940 after a fire started on its stage. Roy A. Benjamin redrew it in Streamline Moderne for about fifty thousand dollars and it reopened that autumn as the only Art Deco building downtown. It closed in 1979, was gutted again by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, and reopened in December 2015 after a restoration campaign that took decades. The four block downtown around it went on the National Register in 2007.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
