The Vincent Thomas Bridge, the first welded suspension bridge in America
1963
San Pedro, California
Regular Daddy · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Fifteen hundred feet of green suspension span linking San Pedro to Terminal Island, opened in 1963 and still the only suspension bridge in greater Los Angeles. It was the first in the country to be welded rather than riveted. It carries the name of Vincent Thomas, the San Pedro assemblyman who spent years getting it funded.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
