The Tappan Zee crossing and the bridge that replaced it

The Hudson is at its widest here, about three miles across, which is why the original Tappan Zee Bridge of 1955 was built cheaply on foundations that were never meant to last. Its twin cable stayed replacement, officially the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, opened in 2017 just to the north and carries the Thruway plus a shared path for cyclists and walkers. The old span was taken down after the new one opened.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
