John Duncan won the competition for Brooklyn's Union memorial and the arch was dedicated in October 1892, eighty feet of granite at the head of Olmsted and Vaux's parkway. Frederick MacMonnies added the bronze quadriga and the war groups a few years later. Thomas Eakins modelled the horses in the Lincoln and Grant reliefs inside the arch, which is close to the only public sculpture he ever made.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
