Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument
1902
Monument Circle, Indianapolis
alexeatswhales · CC BY 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A 284-foot limestone shaft at the centre of the city’s original circular plan, just short of the Statue of Liberty, and the first American monument dedicated to the common soldier rather than a commander. Indianapolis has more war memorial acreage than anywhere but Washington.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
