The Singer House, a Gothic mansion paid for by Union Army iron
1865
Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
John F. Singer supplied iron and steel to the Union Army during the Civil War and put the money into this house. It went up on what is now Singer Place in the 1860s, Gothic Revival with a corner tower and interior millwork preservationists still call irreplaceable, and was reckoned one of the most elaborate mansions of its century. It reached the National Register in 1974 and was named a Pittsburgh landmark in 2000.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
