Clay County put up this frame building in 1938 for the Black children of Orange Park, replacing a worn out school of about 1915 on the same street, and ran it until the middle 1950s under Florida's segregation law. It held one large classroom, an auditorium and a kitchen. The building outlasted the system that built it, went on the National Register in 1998, and now serves the town as a community center.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
