Mifflin E. Bell designed Naperville's first purpose built library in 1897, Richardsonian Romanesque in yellow brick and local limestone, a lighter treatment than the heavy rough stone the style usually calls for. It held the town library until 1986, when operations moved to a modern building on Jefferson Avenue. A later proposal to develop the site became one of the longest running preservation fights in Naperville.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
