The Mesabi armours two world wars
1942
Virginia, Minnesota
At the peak Minnesota was producing the substantial majority of American iron ore, and this range alone supplied a large share of the steel for the ships, tanks and shells of both wars. Trains ran to Duluth around the clock and ore boats left Two Harbors on a schedule measured in hours. The high-grade ore was close to exhausted by 1950, which is the crisis taconite was invented to solve.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
