The Kempners refuse to name a high school after themselves, so it becomes Dulles

When Fort Bend ISD formed in 1959 it bought a site on what was then Lester Road for its first new building. The Kempner brothers, who ran Imperial Sugar and with it most of Sugar Land, turned down the offer to put the family name on the school, saying students would rather have a war figure or an athlete. The district picked John Foster Dulles, Eisenhower's secretary of state, who resigned that April and died in May. The road became Dulles Avenue, and the first class to finish at the campus itself graduated in 1962.
