The ghost locomotives of Eagle Lake
1933
Eagle Lake, Piscataquis County, Maine

Two ninety-ton steam locomotives stand in the woods on the shore of Eagle Lake, exactly where the lumber company parked them when the pulpwood railroad shut down in 1933. Hauling them out cost more than leaving them. They hauled logs across a wilderness with no road to this day, and reaching them still takes a boat or a long walk. The north woods are reclaiming them a rivet at a time.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
