The Allen Water Station, an 1874 dam built to fill locomotives

The Houston and Texas Central Railroad needed water for its steam locomotives more often than it needed anything else, so in the 1870s it dammed the creek here and built a pumping plant beside the track. What survives is a district of six structures: the dam of 1874, the water station site, a stretch of track and roadbed, a railroad bridge of 1910, and the ruins of the tank and pump house.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
