The Fox River interurban, still running a mile and a half of its own track

The Aurora, Elgin and Fox River Electric ran cars up and down this side of the river from the 1890s until 1972, hauling commuters and freight on the valley's own electric line rather than a Chicago one. A group of railfans incorporated in 1961 to buy a surviving stretch of it and started carrying passengers in 1966. They still run on it, with a collection of about 29 cars including one built in 1902 that is the oldest interurban car still operating in the country.
