The Edsel plant closes and takes a million dollars of Somerville's taxes with it
1926
Somerville, Massachusetts
Ford opened this plant in 1926 to replace its Cambridge one, and it became one of the largest employers in the region. By the end it built only the big Edsels, the Corsair and the Citation, and when the Edsel failed the line shut in 1958. The plant had been paying the city over a million dollars a year in taxes. The site is Assembly Square now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
