The Detroit Arsenal, the first plant built to mass produce tanks
1940
Warren, Michigan
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Albert Kahn designed it and Chrysler ran it, and when it went up in 1940 it was the first factory anywhere in the United States built specifically to mass produce tanks. Kahn drew it as a dual purpose plant so it could switch to civilian work when the war ended. The government owned the 113 acre site until 1996. Despite the name it is in Warren, not Detroit.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
