Chrysler's Lynch Road plant cuts a Bofors gun from 450 hours to ten
1942
Lynch Road, Detroit
Chrysler threw up this plant in three months in 1928, two crews starting at opposite ends of the site and two more working outward from the middle, and built DeSotos and Plymouths in it. During the war it switched to tank transmissions and then to the 40mm Bofors anti aircraft gun, a Swedish design that took 450 man hours to build by hand. Chrysler engineers had it down to ten by the end of the war.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
