The Cooke mansion, built on Paterson locomotives and burned in 1991

Broadway, Paterson, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Cooke Locomotive and Machine Works built roughly 2,600 steam locomotives in Paterson between 1852 and 1901, when it was folded into the American Locomotive Company along with seven other builders. Frederick William Cooke, one of the founder's sons, put up this brownstone on Broadway between 1883 and 1886 and stayed on running the works for ALCO until he resigned in 1914. The house went on the National Register in 1982 for its architecture and its place in the locomotive trade, and it burned down in 1991.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
