The Commemorative Air Force keeps the world's largest flying warbird fleet
2001
Dallas, Texas
The group began in the Rio Grande Valley in the 1950s under the name Confederate Air Force and voted to become the Commemorative Air Force in 2001. It holds more than 170 aircraft, the largest collection of airworthy Second World War machines anywhere, flown and maintained by about 13,000 members in more than 70 local units. Its headquarters and the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center sit at Dallas Executive Airport.
