Lowry trained airmen in bombing, gunnery and aircraft maintenance from 1938 until the base shut in 1994. As it closed, the Air Force handed Hangar No. 1, a 40,000 square foot shed built in 1939, to a group of volunteers who filled it with aircraft and with the base's own records. The museum is the reason the paperwork of a base that graduated airmen for 56 years did not simply go to the landfill.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
