The Colorado Chautauqua, the one out west that never closed

Boulder built its Chautauqua at the foot of the Flatirons in 1898 as a summer assembly of lectures, concerts and classes, and it has opened every year since. That unbroken run makes it the only Chautauqua west of the Mississippi still going from the movement's heyday, and the only one that runs year round. The auditorium, dining hall and cottages are still in use rather than preserved behind glass, and the site was made a National Historic Landmark in 2006.
