Morningside, the curving streets Gary's managers built away from the mill
1917
Gary, Indiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Morningside was laid out early in the twentieth century as a secluded district for the city's middle and upper classes, with wide lots and tree shaded curving streets in place of the mill town grid. Building ran from 1917 all the way to 1953, so its 99 contributing houses range from English cottages and Tudor Revival manors to postwar ranches. It sits at the far south end of Gary.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
