The Chain of Rocks Bridge and its twenty two degree bend
1929
Chain of Rocks, St. Louis, Missouri
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A mile of steel that carried Route 66 across the Mississippi and turns twenty two degrees in the middle of the river, because the bedrock and the shipping channel would not allow a straight line and a bend was cheaper than moving either. It closed to traffic in 1970 and is now a walking and cycling bridge. The two castle-looking water intake towers upstream of it belong to the waterworks and are older than the bridge.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
