Washburn Tunnel, Galena Park to Pasadena, Texas

Harris County ran a two lane tunnel under the ship channel in 1950 to tie Galena Park to Pasadena, because a bridge tall enough for the shipping would have needed approach ramps longer than either town had room for. Crews dredged a trench in the channel bed and sank prefabricated tubes into it 85 feet down. It cost seven million dollars, it has never charged a toll, and it is the only underwater vehicle tunnel still open in Texas.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
