Port Morris, the Bronx

McKim, Mead and White, the firm behind Pennsylvania Station, drew this building in 1933 as the screening house where grit is separated from Bronx sewage before it travels to the Wards Island treatment works. It was built in Port Morris between 1936 and 1937. The job got a neoclassical front, columns and all.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
