The Biloxi Lighthouse, kept lit by two women
1848
Biloxi, Mississippi
Woodlot · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A cast-iron tower in the middle of what is now a highway, tended for fifty-three years by Maria Younghans and then her daughter Miranda, one of the longest runs by any keepers in the country. It has survived every hurricane to hit this coast, including Camille and Katrina, and the water line from Katrina is marked on it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
