Berkeley women organised a city club in 1927 and hired Julia Morgan, the first woman licensed to practise architecture in California, to build them a clubhouse on Durant Avenue. She delivered a six storey concrete building of pointed arches, courtyards and a vaulted indoor pool, finished in 1929. It stopped being women only and now takes overnight guests.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
