The Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge replaces a steel company ferry

Until December 1927 the only way across the Ohio here was a ferry run by the Jones and Laughlin tin plant. The riveted cantilever truss that replaced it carries 11th Street 1,908 feet over the river, two railroads and two highways. It ties Ambridge, a town named for its bridge fabricator, to the Aliquippa mill town on the far bank.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
