This ground beside the Salt River held two closed landfills, a foundry and a salvage yard with roughly three thousand wrecked cars, and the buried waste left PCBs and pockets of methane behind. The Environmental Protection Agency listed the area as a Superfund site in 1983 and took it back off two decades later so it could qualify for federal brownfield money. The developer and the city then bought out more than fifty separate landowners and spent about forty million dollars on the cleanup. The open air shopping centre opened on 28 September 2007.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
