Benjamin Franklin Gilbert platted Takoma Park in 1883 along the B and O line and sold it on fresh air and high ground, making it the capital's first railroad suburb. The houses from the first two decades are turreted Queen Anne piles with Stick and Shingle detail. Streetcar lines arrived later and filled in the rest with plainer brick.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
