Tacoma Boatbuilding, the yard that grew too fast on federal contracts
1992

The yard opened on Marine View Drive in 1926 and spent decades turning out fishing boats and workboats for the Puget Sound fleet. It expanded hard in the 1970s and early 1980s chasing large government shipbuilding contracts, ran into trouble on them, and filed for Chapter 11 in 1985. It came out of bankruptcy the next year, never recovered, and shut for good in 1992.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
