TACA Flight 110 dead-sticks onto a levee at Michoud
1988
New Orleans East, Louisiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
On 24 May 1988 a nearly new Boeing 737 flying from Belize to New Orleans took hail into both engines inside a thunderstorm and lost all power on approach. The crew glided it onto a grass levee beside the NASA Michoud plant with nobody seriously hurt and the airframe barely marked. Mechanics fitted new engines out on the levee, and the jet flew away from a Michoud road that had once been a runway.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
