Susquehanna Transfer, where a train ticket bought you a bus through the Lincoln Tunnel

The New York, Susquehanna and Western was in bankruptcy in 1939 and had no way of carrying riders across the Hudson, so on 1 August it opened a station under what is now Route 495 and handed them to buses instead. The fare through the new Lincoln Tunnel to the Port Authority terminal was fifteen cents, the buses were leased from Public Service, and only Susquehanna ticket holders could board. It was a railroad conceding that the road had beaten it, then running the road anyway.
