Sunshine, a gold camp of 1,200 with its own newspaper
1873
Sunshine Canyon, Boulder County, Colorado
Prospectors found gold and silver tellurides in this canyon in 1873 and the camp filled quickly. By 1876 roughly 1,200 people lived here, with a post office, a school, hotels, two saloons and a newspaper called the Sunshine Courier. The ore got harder to reach, the mines shut, and by 1908 about 200 people were left. The canyon still holds fewer people than it did at the peak.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
