St. John the Baptist, mother church of the Byzantine Catholics in America
1903
Munhall, Pennsylvania
Rusyn families from the Carpathians came to the Monongahela mills by the tens of thousands from the 1880s onward, and the Rusyn community at Homestead met in 1894 to organise a parish. It was chartered in 1897 and built on Greentree Road in Munhall in 1903. The church is the mother church of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church and the seat of the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh.
