St. Bernard State Park is donated swamp that almost nobody visits
1971
St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana

Businessman and former state senator Lynn Dean and his wife Jackie handed this tract between Poydras and Caernarvon to the state in 1971. Crews dug a network of lagoons through it and opened it as a campground and picnic ground for a parish that had no other public green space of that size. It sits about eighteen miles from the French Quarter and has spent years near the bottom of Louisiana's state park attendance tables.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
