Pelham Bay Park, three times the size of Central Park
1888
Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
At 2,772 acres this is easily the largest park in New York City, more than three times the size of Central Park, put together by the city in 1888 out of old Pelham manor land. It takes in peninsulas, a lagoon, salt marsh, two golf courses and a mile of beach. Robert Moses reshaped much of the shoreline in the 1930s.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
